Trail Overview
Belknap Access is an out-and-back spur off of the main Carter Mountain Access road, providing access to a vast area alongside Carter Mountain. Pretty easy road, passable with most stock 4-wheel drive vehicles. This route provides some breathtaking views of the Carter Mountain wall towering overhead to over 12,000 feet. Expect lots of trees and a few stream crossings, and occasional small water impoundments.

Difficulty
Pretty easy route with one large, but shallow mud hole with a firm bottom, which probably dries completely up in less rainy periods. You will also encounter a couple of small stream crossings, but they are not very difficult to navigate. Some overgrown vegetation can be found in the sections traversing the forest.
History
The massive Carter Mountain wall, which is the largest mountain mass in the greater Yellowstone ecosystem. It's steep north face is one of the highest in any of the Wyoming or Montana ranges, dropping 4,000 feet in one mile and 6,000 total to the river.
