Trail Overview

Trail W58 forms a 3.4-mile intermediate loop off Trail W16, offering a rugged and scenic ride through forested hillsides. The trail features rockier climbs with loose rock over loamy soil, ruts, and large embedded flat boulders. Slick conditions are common, especially on steep sections and stretches of uneven slick rock that cover portions of the trail. Gradual switchbacks lead into a rutted ascent with larger rocks before reaching a scenic ridge line with expansive views of the rolling hills. Riders should expect occasional fallen trees that may require ducking under.

Access Description

The official staging area for the Warrior Trail System is located in the city of War, with a 2-acre parking lot, a staffed facility, restrooms, and permit sales. Food, fuel, and lodging are available in the towns of War and Gary, West Virginia. From the parking lot, riders can take the approved OHV highway connector along Main St. to the start of Trail 16. Permits can only be purchased from local vendors or at trailhead facilities, and are valid until December 31st of that year. Overnight camping is not allowed at the trailheads, but there are numerous RV resorts, hotels, and restaurants available in the nearby small towns. The Hatfield-McCoy Trail System spans seven counties and ten trailheads in southern West Virginia through terrain rooted in the region's rich coal mining history.
