Trail Overview
Pocahontas 17 is a wide, generally smooth route, with minor ruts and scattered loose rocks, and a small stream running through sections--creating frequent puddles. The darker soil, typical of the region's coal mining past, adds to the trail's character. It winds through a scenic valley between two mountains and features a historic coke oven near its northern end. The southern end of the trail concludes at the edge of the trail system at a small pull-off, with signage clearly indicating the end of the designated trail area. Drivers can take the designated OHV route on the approved highway to the town of Montcalm for food and lodging, or connect to the historic town of Bramwell.
