Trail Overview

Mostly gravel terrain, but has numerous deep water crossings in fall, winter, and spring, lots of off-camber areas. There are also numerous rock gardens to crawl through with by-passes around. Recommended traveling with another vehicle. There are plenty of trails to explore in the area, and obstacles to conquer.

Difficulty

There are plenty of rock gardens that are optional that would take the difficulty rating up. I rated it the way it is due to the off camber areas, some narrow spots and the rock garden entry point.

Several tight areas on the upper 4x4 loop trail from Kammenge Staging Area to Bypass hill were tight with 1'+ deep puddles. After Bypass Hill, the 4x4 Loop Trail to the Goat Ranch entrance has some aggressive moguls which I had slid a few feet on my frame rails at the apexes. Granted I'm in a 2nd Gen Sequoia with 10" ground clearance.
