Trail Overview

This short spur skirts the eastern edge of the 2022 Kalama Fire. You will encounter some narrow spots and may have to move a branch or rock due to slide activity post-fire, but overall, the gravel one-lane track is easily drivable. The treescape and terrain change from the start to the end due to the burn and the slope, and you won't be disappointed with the view of the Kalama River valley below, including a couple of great glimpses of Mt. St. Helens via a short pull-off near the beginning, and a large area for dispersed camping at the end. Signs of wildlife (elk tracks!) were present late summer / early fall. The path up may become muddy or obstructed during the rainy season due to the burn, and may not be accessible in the snow.
