Trail Overview
Skyline Drive is the central attraction of the Arapeen Trail System and as such runs from US-6 in the north to its termination at the Fishlake National Forest where it continues but becomes the Great Western Trail. This is the central section between Manti and Ephraim access points. While generally well maintained, its elevation at 10000 + feet means that it's not usually fully available until July and then only routinely until October/first snow. It can have washouts and rocky sections in addition to snow. During that open period, it's essentially the start of spring. Flowers are blooming. Wildlife is plentiful but viewing them is fairly exclusive to time periods at first light then again at dusk. This trail will not be passable early or late in the season due to heavy snow.

Difficulty
Different sections of the trail have a different experiences. Generally smooth and well maintained, but can become slick and muddy during precipitation.
History
The Trail System is named after the famed Chief Arapeen, a 19th Century Native American Chief who lived in the Sanpete Valley. Arapeen's brother and predecessor, Chief Walkara, invited Pioneers to settle the valley in 1849. In 1856, a year after Walkara's death, Chief Arapeen deeded the entire Sanpete area to Brigham Young and the Church of Jesus Christ- which led to European settlement of the Valley.
