Trail Overview

Red Cloud Loop (FS 10018) is a laidback forest road route perfect for beginners or anyone looking for an easy 4x4 trail near Vernal. Winding through the southeastern section of Ashley National Forest, this loop offers a scenic, low-stress drive through mixed forest with occasional rocky patches and narrow tree-lined stretches. The route primarily follows a graded dirt and gravel surface, with shallow ruts or mild erosion possible after storms. It's well-suited for high-clearance AWD and 4WD vehicles, and also open to ATVs, side-by-sides, and dirt bikes where posted. Access typically opens in mid-spring and lasts into late fall, though snowmelt and rain can render sections muddy or impassable. Wildlife sightings are common along this quiet stretch, and cell service is sparse--plan accordingly before heading in.
