Trail Overview

Non-Resident OHV permits apply to ATVs, UTVs, and dirt bikes. Plated street-legal vehicles typically do not need one on legal motorized routes. This route travels through open desert terrain on a sandy two-track with scattered rocks and signs of past water erosion. Most of the drive is straightforward, but there are several small washouts and uneven sections that can catch drivers off guard if traveling too fast. The trail winds between low hills, rock outcroppings, and wide open views of the surrounding landscape. Along the way, an optional spur leads to old mining remains that appear to be part of a former mill, likely connected to the nearby Parco mining area. It is a scenic connector with light technical features, historic interest, and enough rough spots to keep drivers paying attention.

Difficulty

This route is mostly an easy, sandy, and lightly rocky two-track suitable for most high clearance stock 4x4 vehicles. Minor washouts, erosion, and uneven terrain are the main obstacles, but they are small and manageable with careful driving. Traction is generally good in dry conditions, though sand can become softer after heavy use or weather changes. Low range is typically not required, but extra clearance is helpful in the eroded sections. Great for beginners looking for a scenic route with light challenges and a bit of mining history.

History

This region is closely tied to the uranium and vanadium mining booms that shaped eastern Utah in the mid-1900s. During the Cold War, demand for uranium surged, bringing roads, claims, camps, and small industrial sites into the desert. Evidence of that era still remains today in the form of old structures, fenced or barricaded mine openings, tailings areas, and abandoned access roads. These remnants are part of the area's story: look, photograph, and respect them without disturbing anything.
