Trail Overview

This short trail ends a one of the largest and best-preserved sets of kilns from the Utah mining heyday of the late 1800s. Each kiln may look alike but a close examination will show their uniqueness. The preservation of the artifacts is a testament to the craftsman who built them. The trail is narrow in spots and almost every vehicle will get some new pinstripping on this trail. It is width limited to 60" wide vehicles. Past the kilns the trail is 50" limited. As you travel along the trail you will see numerous large cedar stumps. Taking a closer look at these will show how the Scandinavian loggers in the 1800s used three strokes to fall the trees used to create the charcoal for the smelter. By the early 1900s, there was not a cedar tree for hundreds of miles from this site.

Difficulty

This trail is limited to vehicles with 60" width. Longer vehicles will have difficulty negotiating some of the tighter corners and will most assuredly get additional scratches from the young cedar trees. There are minimal other obstacles on this trail. The trail beyond the kilns is a 50" trail.
