Trail Overview

The road provides a vital link between Highway 40 and Strawberry River Road. While there are dispersed camping options near the upper section, individuals towing trailers or driving low-clearance vehicles may find it more prudent to utilize Strawberry River Road for access to this area. Primarily composed of hard-packed gravel, this route features notable challenges such as sizable potholes and off-camber sections, particularly pronounced when ascending from Highway 40. Personal experience navigating this route during a rainstorm revealed manageable conditions, albeit with consideration for the steep incline at the onset of Highway 40, which may pose increased difficulty during ascent in inclement weather.

Difficulty

The road serves as a crucial conduit linking Highway 40 to Strawberry River Road. While dispersed camping sites are available near the upper section, individuals towing trailers or operating low-clearance vehicles may find it advisable to opt for Strawberry River Road for access to this region. Predominantly consisting of hard-packed gravel, this route presents notable challenges, including sizable potholes and off-camber sections, especially noticeable when ascending from Highway 40. Personal experience navigating this route during a rainstorm revealed manageable conditions, although it's worth noting the steep incline at the onset of Highway 40, which could pose heightened challenges during ascent in adverse weather conditions. Furthermore, the road's narrow width limits opportunities for passing other vehicles, adding another layer of consideration for travelers.

The initial climb going eastbound off of US40 is always fun, this was our second time. I was concerned because it rained last night, but the trail was dry with a couple big puddles that were fun to go through.
