Non-Resident OHV permits apply to ATVs, UTVs, and dirt bikes. Plated street-legal vehicles typically do not need one on legal motorized routes. Buckhorn Wash Overlook is a relaxed scenic drive that delivers big views without the crowds often found in other parts of the San Rafael Swell. Following a well-traveled BLM road, the route is smooth and straightforward with a dirt and light gravel surface that makes it accessible to a wide range of vehicles. There are no notable obstacles along the way, allowing both beginners and experienced drivers to enjoy the area without stress. As you drive toward the overlook, the landscape begins to open up, eventually placing you high above the Morrison Knudsen tunnels, offering a unique top-down perspective you won't get from below. The trail continues to a scenic vantage point overlooking Buckhorn Wash, where the canyon stretches out beneath you.
