Trail Overview
BLM 106L is a highly convenient and visually rewarding 2.2-mile backcountry two-track that serves as an excellent, accessible gateway for off-road explorers. The route's driving surface intriguingly alternates between stretches of rough, white gravel and sections of deeply tracked, vividly colored red sand. Because it is located relatively close to the main thoroughfares, this trail is primarily utilized by travelers looking to safely access the magnificent, towering rock formations of Diana's Throne without venturing too far off the pavement. Along this gently rolling transit, visitors will find a generous offering of flat, highly inviting dispersed campsites nestled beautifully among the scattered green juniper trees and rustic desert scrub. As you cruise toward the horizon under bright blue skies, the trail provides increasingly spectacular, panoramic views of the distinct, multi-colored mesas looming in the distance, making it a perfect, easy-to-reach destination for a quiet overnight stay or a scenic afternoon drive.

Difficulty
BLM 106L comfortably earns a Level 2 Easy technical rating. While the white gravel segments are generally firm and very straightforward to navigate, the route frequently transitions into pockets of notably loose, deep red sand. To safely maintain your forward momentum and prevent your vehicle from dragging or bogging down in these softer, shifting tracks, a high-clearance 2WD truck or capable AWD crossover is highly recommended. Lowering your tire air pressures before leaving the pavement will drastically improve your essential flotation through the sand and smooth out the bumpy transitions over the rocky gravel.
