Trail Overview
Royal Gorge is a one-way trail that features a diverse mix of terrain and obstacles. The trail begins with a wide entry point that gradually narrows as you progress. Along the route, drivers will encounter small rock gardens, areas of standing water, off-camber washouts, short hill climbs, and multiple stair-step obstacles of varying sizes. This is the more technical trail that leads to the base of "The Falls" rock formation. A gated section near the formation requires drivers to exit their vehicles and walk a short distance to reach the base of the falls. After passing the rock formation, there is an off-camber washout that will test vehicle stability and driver control. Continuing beyond this section, expect larger boulders and additional rock ledges. The trail concludes at a busy intersection where Bull Run, Test Tube, U Joint Buster, Green Horn, and Park Road 2 all meet.

Difficulty
This trail presents a moderate-to-difficult challenge due to the presence of numerous boulders and rock ledges that vary in size throughout the route. Because much of the trail follows a creek bed, tires are often wet, which significantly increases the difficulty by reducing traction. Rock stacking may be required on certain ledges depending on vehicle setup, ground clearance, and tire size. One washout on the trail demands careful tire placement to avoid vehicle damage. If the first half of the trail up to "The Falls" represents the limit of your vehicle's capability, there is an optional bypass that allows you to exit to Park Road 2. Difficulty increases notably after passing The Falls, with larger obstacles and more technical sections.
