Trail Overview

Experience a piece of Texas engineering history on this scenic 10-mile trail near Buckholts, Texas. While the drive is not technically challenging, it offers a peaceful journey through the region's rural backroads, culminating in a view of the historic Old Bryant Station Bridge. This trail consists primarily of well-maintained dirt and gravel county roads, connecting Highway 190 to FM 418. As you cross over the Little River, you'll be treated to a clear view of the original 1909 crossing. The Old Bryant Station Bridge is a rare gem--it is one of the few remaining single-span, pin-connected Camelback through truss bridges documented in Texas. After nearly a century of service, it was retired from vehicle traffic in 2002 when the modern bridge was completed. There are areas to park on either side of the river, perfect for capturing photos of the bridge's intricate ironwork, but access to the structure itself is strictly prohibited due to safety concerns. Enjoy the exploration of Milam County's history and the quiet charm of these Texas backroads.
