Trail Overview
Gravel Pit Road is a short dirt route near the Rio Grande River that provides access to a quiet stretch of riverfront desert terrain. The road follows a primarily dirt surface with light uneven sections typical of backcountry park roads. Along the route, there is access to one designated primitive campsite offering a remote riverside setting. At the end of the road, you'll reach a sandy area along the Rio Grande where you can easily see the river flowing below and Mexico directly across from you. The final approach near the river becomes softer and sandier, requiring attention to traction depending on conditions.

Difficulty
Gravel Pit Road is generally manageable for high-clearance vehicles, but the sandy section near the river can reduce traction. Drivers should be prepared for softer surfaces at the end of the route, especially in dry, loose conditions.
