Turning to gravel 5 miles in, Viking Mountain Road is a 3.5-mile out-and-back single-lane forest service road on the Tennessee side of the Cherokee National Forest, southeast of Greeneville, Tennessee, leading up to the Bald Mountains region. On pavement, it is accessed from Greeneville, Tennessee via the Asheville Highway. After approximately five miles of pavement, the road turns to gravel and is single-lane. The road leads up to several backcountry destinations, including the Kennedy Cabin, Little Bald Mountain (4,675 feet), the Camp Creek Bald Lookout, an,d most notably, the Blackstack Cliffs with a few short hiking trails.
