Trail Overview

Trail 20B is a short but very steep spur leading from Trail 1 up to the Lofty Top Overlook, climbing 100 feet in just 0.1 mile. Despite the grade, the trail is wide, with a shallow rut on one side and no major obstacles--just loose, silty dirt underfoot. It's a quick effort for a big reward, offering panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys from a wooden viewing platform with a picnic area. Although Trail 20 also can take you to the Overlook on a more gradual approach, the steeper 20B route is a fun and manageable detour well worth the climb.

Difficulty

The intermediate difficulty is due to the steep grade. Although this trail is really steep, it is very short, and the trail itself is easy with no rocks or obstacles. SXSs can put their vehicle in low range to be easier on the belt for the steep grade.
