Trail Overview

This small section along the cereal bowl, nicknamed "Trix," is a small rock crawling section that rings in at a 4/10. Low range, high clearance is required. This little section is enough to get your feet wet and experience a taste of what Black Hills rock crawling can be like. Featuring undercut rock ledges and tight ponderosa pine trees reaching their way into the trail. This little section is an absolute blast of a trail to run, no matter your tire size. Users need to be prepared to crawl over large rocks scattered along the trail, and be prepared for some South Dakota Pin stripping and rock rash along your wheels. You will need a Motorized trail permit for this trail. Help us keep the historical sites, the beautiful views, and the trails clean. Pack out what you pack in. Mud Bogging in the hills is illegal, and do not use the trails when they are saturated. Go over, not around, obstacles along the trail. Campfires while dispersed camping are illegal. The Black Hills 4x4 community gladly and proudly embraces the Tread Lightly! guidelines, and it is asked that you help us do our part to protect the adventure by following those guidelines.

Difficulty

"Trix" has earned itself a respectful 4/10. From large rocks, undercut ledges, and the need for high clearance and low range, this is no Sunday cruise. Users must be prepared for rock crawling, wheel rock rash, and the use of their skid plates on some occasions. Go over, not around, obstacles to help us protect the trail from excessive erosion.

History

Nicknamed "Trix" due to the advertisement "Trix are for Kids", and keeping with the "Cereal Bowl" theme. This trail has historically served as a section for the local clubs to help new 4x4 enthusiasts learn the basics of rock crawling and spotting in a low-stress environment.
