Trail Overview

Jake is made up of several sections of rock crawling routes along Trail 6326 with each one increasing in difficulty as you go. A high-clearance 4x4 with low range, rock sliders, and a winch is recommended, and body damage is possible. This particular section is Jake Section 1. This Section is great for beginner 4x4 enthusiasts to drop their rigs into 4 low and get a feel for rock crawling. Rated at a 4/10, this short section of trail will provide a challenge to stock 4x4s and trail-rated Jeeps. Expect Black Hills Pin striping. Pick your lines to help carry your rig over the rocks in this section. While they are medium-sized, they have still been known to grab low-hanging shock mounts and differentials. There are NO LEGAL bailouts on this trail. The bypass will be FS Trail 6326. Help us keep this rock crawling section open by obeying the Tread Lightly! Guidelines. Go over the obstacles, not around. Refrain from using the trail when muddy.

Difficulty

Jake Section 1 is rated at a 4/10, with one hard passenger-side turn that will be difficult for full-size vehicles. Factory vehicles on stock tire sizes will find the occasional boulder to drag along their underside. The Exit has three larger boulders that users will have to carefully crawl over. Do not drive around, as that widens the trail. Drive over the obstacles to help preserve the trail.

History

Opened by the Dakota Territory cruisers in the 90s. The history of this trail is fuzzy, with not many knowing where the name "Jake" came from. Jake has been a part of the trail system for several decades. In 2010, the Black Hills trail system experienced a massive land closure to motorized vehicles. With clubs like Black Hills 4-Wheelers, Black Hills Jeeps, and the Dakota Territory Cruisers working together, they were able to preserve the rock crawling routes you run on today in the Black Hills National Forest. This is the importance of what our actions on the trail today mean for tomorrow.
