Antelope Ridge Road

Trail Overview

Antelope Ridge Road is one of those wide-open, big-sky ridge roads that just hits right--quiet, open country with views that stretch for miles. Antelope Ridge lives up to its name, too; pronghorns are a regular sight out here, especially early morning or late evening when they're moving through the grasslands. The road itself is easygoing in dry conditions and runs along a mellow ridgeline, making it a great option for linking up with other FS roads nearby. There are several solid dispersed campsites right on the ridge--flat, open, and perfect for a few rigs or just tucking in solo. The sunrises and sunsets here are incredible, with nothing but sky and layered hills as far as you can see. From a local use perspective, this area sees light OHV traffic and some foot and horse travel, but it's also popular during big game season, especially for pronghorn and deer. You're riding through a mix of sandstone and shale layers up here, classic foothill geology on the edge of the Black Hills uplift. That means there's good drainage, open forest, and long lines of sight across the breaks. Pack in, pack out, leave no trace, and tread lightly.
