Trail Overview
The Francis Marion National Forest, situated north of Charleston, South Carolina, bears the name of the Revolutionary War hero Francis Marion, whom the British called the Swamp Fox. It is entirely encompassed by the Middle Atlantic coastal forests ecoregion and is also within a subtropical coniferous forest. The forest provides a route to the Huger Recreation Area, accessible from the adjacent South Carolina Adventure Route Segments. Initially bordered by private land, the route soon opens into public land after the initial few hundred yards.
