Trail Overview

Sitkum Butte, this forest road trail begins with a set of moguls, they are pretty steep but spread far enough apart that just about any four wheel drive can conquer them. The majority of the trail after that is relatively timid, although tight, with brush and small obstacles. As you reach just over the halfway point, you will begin to go up a grade, and off to the right, you will see a rock outcropping. It is an interesting place to stop and provides a good view. Now the remaining part of the trail offers Manzineta Bush pinstriping because it gets tight. The final push is a bit sketchy. It is a steep incline that is all or nothing. Lock in your rear locker if you have one and gun it. The ascent is short, and the stop is short. You will know you are at the top because there is nowhere else to go. There is the smallest of campsites at the end of the Ascent, and turnaround takes time. Set up camp for the night and relax. I would suggest putting up some caution tape on the trail for safety in the unlikely event that someone else should come up to the top, they will slow down. It could get crowded quickly!
