Trail Overview
Trail 45 is rated moderate but carries a "most difficult" designation by the Forest Service, with quads not recommended due to challenging terrain. The trail features abundant loose pumice rock, embedded rock layers, and tight turns. Riders encounter large whoops and small climbs covered in loose, chunky rock, as well as uneven embedded rock ledges at least a foot tall. Midway through, there is a more significant obstacle formed by a taller ledge from an embedded boulder face. The route passes near extensive lava flows and maintains constant loose rock conditions, demanding careful navigation and skill. This route is part of the Chelsey's Challenge (a 53-mile route commemorating George Chelsey, the Fort Rock District Ranger who created East Fort Rock in 1993).
