Trail Overview

FSR-307, Beech Creek Road, is a well-maintained, out-and-back trail that winds along the shores of Persimmon Lake within the Nantahala National Forest. This easy, gravel-based trail offers a peaceful ride through the forest with several opportunities to gain access to the lake. There is a mixed-use area with picnic tables, fire pits, and multiple sites designated for tent camping. The area has excellent cell service. Murphy, North Carolina, is a mere minutes away and offers plenty of amazing food options and lodging to plan a multiple-day trip. Legally licensed vehicles permitted. The area closes during the winter months. It's a good idea to check with the district ranger station for trail closures before making the trip. Tusquittee Ranger District 828-837-5152.

Access Description

The trailhead is easily accessible via paved roads coming from I-64. Take Highway-294 and make a right onto Panther Top Road (1303). Follow the signage to the intersection of two gravel roads and veer left onto FS-307.
