Trail Overview
Vistas Overlook is a primarily rocky trail and best run from its northern entrance, which is located approximately 2 miles from the south entrance of La Madera Loop, located off of CR519. Most high clearance AWD can complete the narrow two-track, and it will be an easy track for most 4WD and 4X4 vehicles. While there are no obstacles over 14" in size from grade level, two sections of the trail have been rutted or washed out and are roughly 14" in depth. Both of these sections, one ascending and the other descending, will require good line choice to avoid the spots that are washed out. Most of the rocky sections have rocks under 12 inches in size, with many being loose, making the short, steep grade hills slightly more difficult for vehicles that are not 4WD. At 2 miles in from the north entrance, a sharp switchback turn offers unobstructed views to the north, east, and south that give a full view of the surrounding mountain ranges, rolling hills, and some of the lower canyons in the area. The views continue as the descent begins over the remaining 3.4 miles through a tight, winding trail that gradually slopes back to CR519. Cell service is weak at the higher elevation of the trail near the switchback, but quickly drops to no service before and after this spot.

Difficulty
Vehicles will need to navigate over loose rocky surfaces with some rocks being up to 14 inches in size. There are a few short steeper grades over loose surfaces and rocks, deeper ruts and some small sandy washes that have the potential to be shallow water crossings after heavy rains. Brush and foliage does impede on the trail and makes it very narrow in some sections with the potential for trail rash and minor paint damage.
