Trail Overview

It is an excellent trail for anyone exploring the Chloride Canyon area. Scales Canyon offers some challenges, including several creek bed crossings where a midsize truck will easily drag its rear bumper, obstacles on the trails up to 18", and some way-finding skills are needed. The trail stops short by approximately a half mile due to large downed trees. There are limited options for dispersed camping with privacy, but it is a great trip idea for anyone looking for moderate challenges that a stock 4x4 can handle. Shallow water crossings, encroaching vegetation, and wildlife can be found on this out-and-back trail.
