Old Sunspot Highway - FS 5009

Trail Overview

The Old Sunspot Highway ATV trail is a short and easy connecting route from Agua Chiquita Road to the Water Canyon 5009 road. The trail is essentially an old road that is now designated only for ATVs and dirt bikes. It is wide, very gradual, covered in a light layer of loose rock and gravel, with a bit of flat embedded rock, but it is overall very easy and a smooth ride. It starts right next to the paved Sunspot Highway, and goes northeast along a hillside, with wide open views of the grassy meadows below the road. It is lined with pine trees and has great visibility. It's just a quick connecting route so that you can access ATV trails from both Agua Chiquita Road and Upper Rio Penasco Road without having to take the highway.
