Trail Overview
This scenic trip begins on Forest Road 8 in the town of Gallina, New Mexico. At the start, the elevation is 7,475 feet, but you will traverse up to the 9,020-foot elevation. The road begins as a maintained dirt road. Halfway through the trip, the road becomes rockier, with multiple snow and ice patches during the winter. On the Mesa top, towards the end of the trip, the trail is rocky but has been recently maintained due to the recent wildfire in the area. At the end of the trail, there are beautiful scenic views of Abiquiu Lake, the many painted cliffsides, and even a view of the Cerro Pedernal Mesa in the far distance.

Difficulty
The trail is easy for most 4x4-equipped vehicles. The rocky surfaces provide vehicle grip in most places but the trail was observed to have some icy/snow-packed areas in the shade. Please check the area prior to travel as heavy snow can significantly increase the difficulty of the trail.
