Trail Overview
Calf Crossing starts and ends at gated private property lines, and intersects off Baca Traverse. This trail has the potential to be very muddy, with signs of rutting and washes, as well as multiple small water crossings after rain or snow melt. The trail surface is primarily dirt and rocks with some rutted areas being more than 12" in depth but easily avoided if necessary. There are some areas of the trail that are single-vehicle wide due to bushes and shrubs, but many areas that allow for passing. Wide open meadows throughout the trail with several areas for potential dispersed camping sites. The trail is easily completed with most 4x4 vehicles, just be aware of any wet weather in the area and expect slippery mud and rutting after rain or snow. Cell service was poor. There is an abundance of cattle in the area, many of which chose to lay on the trail track but do avoid vehicles. Views in the area are limited as you drop down into the valley of the foothills.
