Trail Overview

ATV Trail #960 is almost two miles long, accessed from the Sapillo Campground in the Gila National Forest. The trail goes through a dry forest of ponderosa pines. The first half climbs up a couple of hundred feet in elevation, mostly gradually, but with a few short steep climbs full of loose rock and shallow ruts. The second half descends down towards State Highway 35. There was a big tree down that will need to be cleared in order for ATVs to pass through. Some sections of the trail have a heavier layer of loose rock and ruts, while other sections are smoother, but overall, riders should expect minor embedded rock layers making tiny stair steps less than 6 inches tall.
