Old Pony Express Trail -California Telegraph route that contains stumps of the telegraph poles along the route. The route is mostly smooth, with overgrown double track wide enough for a high-clearance vehicle. You may gain a couple of pinstripes from the trees and bushes along the trail. Difficulty

The trail contains a couple of places where it was washed out by runoff from rainfall, but can be easily traversed by a high-clearance 4x4.

History

This route follows the first transcontinental telegraph line used from 1861 to 1869. Completion of this line led to the end of the Pony Express mail service. Stumps of telegraph poles remain along this route.
