Trail Overview

Prairie Dog is an east-west trail that connects Hat Creek Road with Conklin (FR 924). The topography of the trail is very much like the others in the area, with rolling hills covered with mixed-grass prairie. The name of the trail is an obvious nod to the burrowing rodents that have created the thousands of mounds blanketing the hills nearby. The trail is two-track, on a grass-covered sandy surface. You will need to open (and close) several gates along the way. Expect to share the trail with cattle in places. You will likely also see antelope, elk, or, as the name indicates, prairie dogs. There are no restrooms or designated staging areas, but there is cell coverage.
