Trail Overview

The Adel Mountains are a geologist's dream to experience. Filled with small laccoliths and dikes, this igneous complex dates to approximately 65 million years ago. The resulting topography is that of rolling hills, lush had meadow valleys, and prominent igneous ridges and buttes. A beautiful vista is around every corner, so keep that camera handy. Besides the natural beauty of the landscape, the highlight of this route is experiencing the St. Peters Mission historical site. Built before Montana became a state, it was the cradle of Christianity amongst the wilds of the western frontier and the Blackfeet Indians.

Difficulty

The road is decently maintained in the summer but can be quite challenging even with a few inches of snow. Watch for free ranging cattle.
