Trail Overview
Shook Mountain Trail is a fun trail that forks off of Piquett Creek Trail. Although this trail is easy, it is constantly changing direction. There are a lot of turns and switchbacks on this trail, and some of them are pretty tight. For the most part, this trail is one full-size vehicle wide. There are, however, sections that widen to two vehicle widths, but they are pretty short. There are also some sections where you will not be able to pass another vehicle, and some reversing will be required if you approach oncoming traffic in these spots. There are some spots where bushes and tree branches are growing into the trail, but you can squeeze a full-size pickup through without any scratching. A majority of this trail has significant drops close to the edge of the trail. This trail climbs almost the entire way. It isn't very steep, but it is a consistent climb. Some sections are rockier than others, but the rocks do not exceed 12 inches in diameter, and most of them are well under 12 inches. The trail is mostly gravel and has very few ruts in it. There are some great views of Trapper Peak and the surrounding mountains, and there are some good pullouts to stop and take in the view. Overall, this is a smooth trail. The last mile is a little rougher than the rest, but it isn't too bad. This trail comes to a dead end, and you will need to turn around and come out the way you came in unless you are on a dirt bike. There is a dirt bike trail (Shook Mountain - Medicine Point) that begins at the end of the Shook Mountain Trail.

Difficulty
This is an overall easy trail. Just be careful going around all of the tight switchbacks and turns, as there isn't much room for error. All rocks are 12 inches or less, with most being less than 12 inches. This can be a very sketchy road if there is a significant amount of snow because of the significant drops off the trail. The road is mostly one vehicle wide, some sections up to two vehicles wide.
