Trail Overview
Ninemile Divide Trail is a narrow single-track dirt trail that starts and ends at dirt roads. This is only a portion of the entire Ninemile Divide Trail, which continues south of where this track ends. This trail appears to be lightly maintained, with all logs and trees cut out from the trail. There is a lot of overgrowth in the form of bushes that you end up riding through, but it's not too bad. Starting from (47.25385, -114.77144) on Fores Service Road 5521-2, the trail takes off going uphill across a steep slope. The trail is somewhat rutted and has some water erosion along it. The trail isn't overly technical, with the biggest challenges coming in the form of how narrow the trail actually is. There are sections of the trail that are rutted and sections with small obstacles. Within 1000 yards of starting, you're on the ridgeline. It continues to climb and descend as it follows the mountains. Many times you're traveling through thick timber and cannot see too far. However, you do pop out into meadows and open ridgelines where you get good views of the mountains to the North and South. At the end of this trail, you are deposited on Johnson First Creek Road. From here, you can make a loop via dirt roads back to your starting point, reverse what you rode, or continue south on the Ninemile Divide Trail for a longer ride. If you continue south, this trail description is not an account of what you will ride. Cell service is intermittent but generally good along the ridgeline. There was no cell service the entire way driving up the Ninemile valley to get to the trailhead. Carrying bear spray is advised as you're in thick brush and timber, and evidence of animals is prevalent.
