Swamp Lake

Trail Overview

The Swamp Lake trail begins with a gravel surface that is heavily eroded and quite bumpy during the initial climb. Once at the top of the hill, the trail evens out and becomes noticeably smoother. From there, it winds through forested terrain with gentle ascents and descents, gradually narrowing as it progresses. This spur is particularly swampy in July and eventually reaches a lake where the trail drops below the waterline, creating a flooded, muddy section with deep holes. While the conditions may appear daunting, the trail is generally passable with caution. The main trail continues through a wide forest clearing, though travelers should remain alert for fallen trees obstructing the path. The route ends at a small open area and a closed gate marked with a sign stating "for administrative use only." There are no formal or dispersed campsites along the trail, and no amenities such as trash disposal or potable water. Cell service may be limited or unavailable in this area. Additionally, it is worth noting that there is a wet and boggy side trail that branches off from the main route and stretches for approximately eight miles.

Difficulty

The trail is maintained but can develop light overgrowth between trims, especially in the summer months. Commonly used by local OHV traffic, the path remains visible and passable, though with heavy rains, the path may become more challenging to traverse.
