Trail Overview
This trail follows a narrow but partially cleared two-track route composed of gravel. The surface is uneven, with rocks and bumps throughout, and the trail includes several ascents and descents as it twists through forested terrain. It eventually reaches an intersection that connects with other nearby trails. At the end of the main route, there is a trailhead that descends toward the river. This area includes a small, level gravel parking spot that appears suitable for dispersed camping. This trail is popular with local trail users as it leads to two river access areas. Beware of traffic. While there are no formal campsites, dispersed camping is generally allowed in the Superior National Forest, provided it is outside the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Please confirm with local authorities before dispersed camping.

History
The Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW) in northern Minnesota is one of the most pristine wilderness areas in the United States, covering over 1 million acres of interconnected lakes, rivers, and forests. Established as protected federal land in 1978, it preserves the cultural history of Ojibwe people, fur traders, and early explorers while limiting motorized access to maintain its wild character. Today, it's world-renowned for canoeing, fishing, camping, and wildlife watching, offering a true backcountry experience where travelers can explore hundreds of miles of water routes and portage trails.
