Trail Overview
The Pit Lake trail, despite its name, leads to a scenic lake and a basic, rustic campsite. The trail is accessed via the Bally Creek trail and begins as a relatively wide, well-maintained gravel road, although frequent corrugations mark the surface. Early on, the route passes a lake where the road becomes wet due to water erosion, requiring careful driving. At a junction, the trail continues to the left and becomes rougher, with bumpy, off-camber sections and large potholes that often hold water. The trail runs alongside the lake and passes several fishing access points, including a pier designed for persons with disabilities, though the structure is in poor condition. The trail ends at a turnaround area that includes a small boat launch, a single walk-in campsite equipped with a picnic table and fire ring, and a basic toilet facility. The remains of an old bridge can also be seen near the water. There are no trash bins or potable water sources, and cell service may be unreliable.
