Trail Overview

This trail is considered mild and suitable for most off-road vehicles, including those with minimal modifications. The base is primarily dirt, which makes for a generally smooth ride, though recent rainfall can lead to small mud puddles forming along the way. These puddles are usually shallow and have solid bottoms, so they don't pose much of a challenge. The trail winds through a wooded area and provides access to several optional hill climbs. These climbs vary in difficulty, allowing drivers to choose based on their experience and vehicle capabilities. Overall, it's a great trail for exploring without tackling anything too intense.

History

The Iron Range OHV Recreation Area was built on reclaimed mining land, once part of the rich Mesabi Iron Range that fueled U.S. steel production for over a century. Today, this 1,200+ acre site blends industrial history with outdoor adventure, offering a rare chance to ride through the remnants of Minnesota's mining legacy.
