Trail Overview
This trail leads into a low-lying area known for holding water, especially after rainfall. As you make your way along the route, you'll encounter a series of large mud puddles that can vary greatly in depth. Some may appear shallow but hide deep ruts or soft, sticky mud underneath, making it easy to get stuck if you're not prepared. Use caution before entering any standing water. Aggressive tires, recovery gear, and even a winch are smart to have on hand. This is a fun challenge for mud lovers but not ideal for stock vehicles.

Difficulty
The primary challenge comes from deep mud puddles with soft, unstable bottoms. While there are no rock obstacles, the potential for getting stuck is higher without proper tires or recovery gear.
History
The Iron Range OHV Recreation Area was built on reclaimed mining land, once part of the rich Mesabi Iron Range that fueled U.S. steel production for over a century. Today, this 1,200+ acre site blends industrial history with outdoor adventure, offering a rare chance to ride through the remnants of Minnesota's mining legacy.
