Trail Overview

This trail features a primarily dirt base and offers an easygoing route suitable for a wide range of off-road vehicles and driver experience levels. While there are no significant obstacles along the path--no large rocks, ledges, or technical features--it's important to note that the terrain can change with the weather. After recent rainfall, the trail commonly develops mud puddles of varying depth, which can make traction a bit more unpredictable in certain spots. Despite that, the route remains accessible and manageable, making it a great option for beginners, families, or anyone looking to explore without facing major technical challenges.

History

The Iron Range OHV Recreation Area was built on reclaimed mining land, once part of the rich Mesabi Iron Range that fueled U.S. steel production for over a century. Today, this 1,200+ acre site blends industrial history with outdoor adventure, offering a rare chance to ride through the remnants of Minnesota's mining legacy.
