Trail Overview

This trail follows a well-maintained reddish-brown gravel surface and begins near a designated campground that offers picnic tables, fire rings, drinking water, and a toilet. As the trail winds through the forest, it features a mix of ascents and descents, with stretches of scenic wooded terrain. Early on, an offshoot leads to a communications tower located at the former site of a lookout tower, where the view may be impressive in clear weather. A number of smaller trails branch off from the main route, though most are overgrown and see little use. Straw has been laid in some of the wetter sections, particularly where standing water collects. About halfway through the 10-mile route, there is a clearing near a non-motorized trail junction. A posted sign warns that the trail narrows in sections and that users should remain alert for heavy equipment and passing vehicles. The Poplar campsite is located along the route and provides picnic tables and fire rings; it operates without a fee and has limited services. One rough side trail provides public access to water, though it is deeply rutted with large, water-filled potholes. A non-motorized trail featuring a wooden bridge also splits off from this access road. Toward the latter half of the route, the trail passes several large private residences. There are no trash facilities along the way, and cell service may be unreliable or unavailable in certain areas.
