Trail Overview
This trail offers a relatively mild off-road experience, making it a great option for beginners or those looking for a more relaxing drive through the woods. The trail surface is mostly dirt, and you may encounter small mud puddles along the way, especially after recent rainfall. While there are no major obstacles to contend with, there are a few spots where trees grow close to the trail, so light pinstriping is possible, particularly for wider vehicles. One of the highlights of this trail is that it passes by the scenic Leaf Lake Overlook, offering a peaceful spot to take a break and enjoy the view.

Difficulty
There are no technical obstacles, though drivers should stay alert for tight tree-lined sections that may cause light pinstriping. Occasional mud puddles may appear after rain, but are typically shallow with a solid base. Overall, it's a scenic and beginner-friendly route with minimal challenges.
History
The Iron Range OHV Recreation Area was built on reclaimed mining land, once part of the rich Mesabi Iron Range that fueled U.S. steel production for over a century. Today, this 1,200+ acre site blends industrial history with outdoor adventure, offering a rare chance to ride through the remnants of Minnesota's mining legacy.
