Trail Overview
This trail is relatively narrow but remains well-graded with a smooth gravel surface, making for a generally comfortable drive as it winds through forested terrain. The route features moderate ascents and descents, adding some variety to the otherwise steady pace. Several smaller trails branch off into the surrounding woods, though many appear to be either closed, blocked by large rocks, or too short to lead anywhere significant. Still, the area has a quiet, secluded feel and may be worth a closer look for those interested in exploring. As the trail approaches 73 Road, it provides access to the Sturgeon River Road Hiking Trail. Use caution when nearing the junction with 73, as traffic on that road tends to move quickly. There are no formal or dispersed campsites along this trail, and amenities like trash bins or water access are not available. Cell reception may be limited or inconsistent throughout the area.

History
Superior National Forest was established in 1909 by President Theodore Roosevelt to protect the region's watersheds and natural resources after years of heavy logging and mining. The area has long been home to the Ojibwe people, who continue to maintain cultural ties to the land. In 1978, the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness within the forest was given added protection, making it one of the most visited wilderness areas in the U.S. today.
