Trail Overview

This long and scenic trail has two distinct sections, each offering a different kind of off-road experience. It begins as a wide, well-maintained gravel road suitable for two vehicles, winding through dense forest with several steep ascents and descents. As the trail continues, it gradually narrows and reaches a clearing near a river. From there, it climbs back into the forest, where signs of water erosion begin to appear along the route. Upon reaching an intersection marked by a sign for Route 471, the trail changes character significantly. Beyond this point, it becomes an unmaintained two-track that is heavily overgrown, increasing the likelihood of pinstriping. The terrain becomes more rugged, with noticeable bumps and rocky sections, and the trail includes a few short climbs and descents. A cleared helicopter landing zone is tucked away off the main path, followed by a fork where the left leads to a hiking trail and the right continues as a narrowing ATV route. This final stretch is especially overgrown and eventually ends in a clearing where another ATV trail intersects. The forest in this area features some distinctive rock formations that add visual interest to the route. There are no formal campsites along the trail, and no amenities such as potable water or trash disposal. Cell service may be limited or unavailable throughout much of the area.

Difficulty

The trail is maintained but can develop light overgrowth between trims, especially in the winter months. Commonly used by local OHV traffic, the path remains visible and passable, though branches and low brush may occasionally encroach. The start of this trail is well-maintained, but gradually becomes more overgrown and unmaintained.
