Trail Overview

This trail offers a mostly easy-going experience with just one notable feature, a moderately steep hill climb that connects Berry Trail to Fly Trap. The incline can require a bit of throttle control, especially if conditions are wet or loose, but it's manageable for most 4WD vehicles with even minimal off-road capability. After recent rainfall, expect to encounter mud puddles along the route, though they typically have solid bottoms and are not excessively deep. Outside of that hill climb, the trail is very mild with a well-packed dirt base. It's a great connector for those looking to explore without technical challenges.

History

The Iron Range OHV Recreation Area was built on reclaimed mining land, once part of the rich Mesabi Iron Range that fueled U.S. steel production for over a century. Today, this 1,200+ acre site blends industrial history with outdoor adventure, offering a rare chance to ride through the remnants of Minnesota's mining legacy.
