Trail Overview

This is trial SB. This trail runs from its start point at its intersection with trail LL, located just north of Agate Falls. This trail runs until its endpoint at Hokens Rd. The trail is located in Ontonagon County, Michigan. This section of the SB railroad grade runs through several small towns; however, the town of Bruce Crossing is the only one that contains gas stations or restaurants. The scenery along this trail is a mix of woods as well as open farmland in the background. Trail SB is very scenic in the summer and fall months, as it offers different views compared to many other areas in the UP. There are also several elevated bridge crossings on this trail as it travels over the Baltimore River, as well as the Ontonagon River. The terrain on this trail is mostly flat, with some small rolling hills. The trail surface is an extra small to small rock that does not easily become wwashboardedor or rutted out like other railroad grades.

Difficulty

This trail can be completed by riders of all experience levels. The trail is very mild and well taken care of, allowing for very relaxing cruising while trying to make up some miles or quickly reach a destination. The surface on the trail is very small rocks, which pack quite well, allowing the trail to remain mostly washboard-and rut-free. This again creates a very relaxing driving environment. The trail is wide enough for smaller machines to pass at speed; however, machines over 60 inches wide will need to slow down to pass each other safely. With the elevation of the grade, it does not easily collect water, and because of this, the trail will rarely ever have water spots.
