Trail Overview

NFS 6619 is a fun and muddy off-road trail, located off NFS 6645 in the Manistee National Forest. This trail is mostly easy with nothing technical other than mud holes. Like most of Michigan trails, conditions are dependent on the weather. Recent rainfall can cause mud/water holes that can get rutted out quickly. Some of these mud pits have a bypass around them. Just please remember to TREAD LIGHTLY! The rest of the trail is a combination of sand and dirt, and weaves through an absolutely beautiful section of the Forest with great towering Red Pines. Although this trail connects with N Maple Island Road (trail), that trail dead ends into private property where it turns into a swamp. Thus, making this route an out-and-back trail. This trail ends at a private road as well, so please respect the local property owners and stick to the trail. The trail also ends at a sandy open space where you can park and hike down to the nearby Big South Branch Pere Marquette River. Most of this trail is only wide enough for one vehicle, with limited places to pass. Regardless of the conditions, this is a neat trail!
