Trail Overview
NFS 6036 is a fun seasonal bidirectional trail located within the Manistee National Forest. If you've done Trail NFS 6024, it's very similar. Starting from the west end, you'll begin on a smooth sandy dirt trail with magnificent Red Pine Trees. The trail transitions from a smooth sandy dirt surface to a deeper sand consistency throughout the logged portion of the forest. This is worth noting for low clearance vehicles and heavy rigs. Lowering your tire pressure in conditions like this will gain more traction. Logging operations do take place here, so please use caution. A few sections towards the end get a bit rutted out along the powerline portion, but like most of Michigan trails, conditions are dependent on the weather. Recent rainfall can cause unfavorable conditions on the trail, including downed trees, mud holes, and washouts. Come Prepared! Most of this trail is only wide enough for 1 vehicle, with limited places to pass. There are places periodically on this trail that get to be washboard. This is not a difficult trail at all, but it still contains a great amount of beauty and gives access to other great trails nearby. The east end of the trail finishes at the intersection of NFS 6028 & Osborn Avenue. One last thing to mention is that this trail is a seasonal trail that is used for snowmobiling during the winter months. Regardless of the conditions, this is an amazing trail! PLEASE TREAD LIGHTLY and be respectful of our public lands so future generations can have access to these trails!
