Old Fincastle/Big Andy Ridge

This trail does not go through. It’s a down and back

Coming up from the South, it is gated off at Shoemaker Automotive Repair as private property.

You may enter the trail from Campton, we made it about half way before a local told us we wouldn’t be able to exit to Old Fincastle Road. We agreed with him that at least the beginning of the trail was “cadillac-ing.” The trail can be narrow, with a few branches swiping the vehicle. Several shallow creek crossing and one deeper crossing (the water just barely touching the rock rails, well below the door level). Trail was muddy, recommend at least rear locker.

Most of the trail is in fair condition. Half of what’s labeled on the map is actually paved. There was one tree down but it was small enough to drive over. The boulders are still blocking the main road on the up hill section. There is a bypass trail at the bottom of the blocked hill, but we didn’t take it and chose to turn around. There are several creek crossings, the deepest being almost waist high.
